What Is Out There

Lessons wait

What do I explore?

The mountains

Curving roads

Ravens scanning the river

Boulders waiting to be washed away

After millennium of holding ground

And pushing back against

The flow of gravity and water

The people in the bar

Observing souls

In a place where they are not trying

Or trying too hard

Blank stares into their whiskey and beer

Gallant laughs with their circle of friends

Music circling their stories

In the background as a game

In the library

Where we sit with ourselves

And soak in pages

Of inspiration, ideas to capture, stories told

Conflicts in the world

Recipes, photos, poems

Published and available to the masses

An opportunity for equality

Or no one

Just nature stirring

The clouds, stars in the sky

Or lack of them

Raindrops on the deck

Birds singing

Flies buzzing, dragonflies circling

Silence and images that are the background

For an epic story told in my mind

Or perhaps the faces

Passing me in my car

Someone laughing to the radio

Singing along

Thinking distant thoughts

Wanting a connection

Anticipating what awaits their arrival

Zooming through distances of space

Separate from the steel barrier

That pushes against time

At a futuristic rate

I can wait, listen

Sit back in my own skin

Observe my feelings

Create poems in my mind

Pictures in my head

Asking to be expressed

Leveling with the silence

Or crashing noise

Inside my being
