Uncomfortable Ease

It has been a busy couple of days. I am blessed with a new computer and this is my first blog in Pages and on my new Mac. It is very exciting. It is a cold and breezy day and there is talk of snow on the horizon. I had a wonderful yoga session this morning and am home making new discoveries on my new machine. It is amazing what technology does and I am very grateful for these advances. I love the sounds coming from my fingers as I type on this new keyboard and I am already comfortable with the new keypad which just shows the thought that went into the creation.

Today in Yoga there was discussion about finding the ease within the exertion of a pose. This translates to finding the rest within the effort, or balancing rest with exertion, all through our daily lives. I am adding this to the concept that Yoga is the practice of getting comfortable in an uncomfortable position. This applies to life in a very organic way. Every day we are called to do things such as the dishes, exercise and work that take effort and are difficult. Somehow we must learn to be mindful in these activities. We can even take it one step further and learn to enjoy through meditation and ease the flow of these difficult tasks. I left yoga feeling rested and as though I made little physical exertion at all through the class. Somehow, embodying the concept of resting within the effort, I came through the class with an enormous sense of effortlessness.

Soon I am beginning work at the Library. It will be a small commitment of substitution and perhaps only a few days a month. However, embracing this work mentality, I am going to need to remember this yogic practice. I have found when my world gets more chaotic, I am less inclined to maintain a sense of calm. I will get flustered while leaving my home or returning to it after a shift of work. So it is going to take mental intention to maintain a sense of ease within the coming days of work, but I want this more than anything. Someday my little substitute job may turn into a bigger position and I will need to be mastering the practice of ease and meditation within times of great effort. If it is true what I experienced today, then it is possible to do great amounts of work with an overall sense of simplicity, deftness and peace. I look forward to continuing to exercise this practice. When we are mindful, there is no end to what we can create, produce and endure.
