A Beautiful Day

A beautiful day outside, I was able to appreciate the sun with a walk on the beach with my man and my dogs, a swim in my mom’s pond, and a sit on the Galley deck with a root beer (I may have added a little whiskey). But this was after six loads of laundry, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping the floors. We did the dishes, mowed the lawn, watered the garden, cleaned and organized, and dusted and hung some pictures; a day off in so many words.

I am so grateful for a visit from Steve’s sister Eleanor this week, a friend he has had for 25 years, and I have had for the last 17. I met Eleanor when I was first hooking up with Steve. This happened mostly on her sofa where Steve was staying at the time. We recalled a Father’s day when my Dad showed up in an apron reading “Best Dad of the Year”, spatula in hand, knocking on Eleanor’s door looking for me as dinner was on the table. It is hard to say there were any rational thoughts in my mind at the time as I was in love. Totally smitten, nothing else mattered, and here I am, here we are, 17 years later, still best friends and ready for the next decade of passion, love and all that goes along with it.

Eleanor blessed us with her presence for two nights, and I am super grateful for an awesome hike the two of us and the dogs took up Chadwick hill, the highest view point on Lopez Island. I had just recovered from a long illness pertaining to the gut, and was still staying off my knee that had acted up terribly in early May. The hike showed me that I had fully recovered from both. It was a beautiful day spent with an amazing person, and it felt great to get my heart pumping once again.

The sun is shining low at 7:30pm in the evening and Steve is out watering the beds in the yard, the final load is spinning in the washer, and I am enjoying a glass of wine in my nighty. I am so grateful for this life. It is full of beautiful and wondrous things. But most of all I am grateful for good friends, an astounding lover, and my health so I can continue to love on my best peeps. Blessings, blessings, all around.
