Alone in the Wakening

At Dawn

As the early sun rises

I notice the cracks in my house

Resurface in the ignited rays of a new day

Though still apparent when shrouded in the dark

Of an evening spent dreaming

Sometimes enlightening

Sometimes chaotic

I wake to find my house still

Blanketed in the shadows of pre-dawn

But I know the light is coming

Like a reminder

That every day is a new beginning

And that here by myself

Alone in the wakening of the day

I am reminded that there is yet another

Waiting for me when the sun sets

And then returns to me again
