An Illusion Comes from the Dark, Freedom Comes from Revealing It

Is there a hard conversation that I am waiting to have with the world or the people in my life? I believe we all have these secrets or dark corners of ourselves that are waiting to see light and need to be expressed. This is why I encourage art; expression of you, writing poetry, etc. Maybe you are not a person who knows how to put words to your pain. Maybe you are someone who needs a platform to step on before standing on a mountain or in the central square in town and belting out your truth in a single sentence or a song that you've composed; if for the one you love that you have known for years and have never whispered a word of your feelings. Maybe you are someone who needs to express a hurt part of yourself, and the one who harmed you is no longer with us or simply a faint echo or distant glimpse of your Facebook page. Perhaps you don’t even want to put words to your expressions but just want to paint the pain, confusion and story in rich colors and patterns that come from the subconscious and can tell yourself a story that you have not yet revealed. Maybe you don’t have a clue what you need to say but if you are like me, you could just start typing and see what flows from your fingers.

I started this Blog and created the slogan on a whim, “Everyone needs a little self-expression”.  Not only because we all have a story that is worth hearing and expressing, but because it sheds light on our fragmented pieces. It helps to know in yourself that you are aware of what hurts, and even if you are just saying this to yourself and god in the privacy of your room, droplets of sunshine will illuminate your skeletons and they will grow a little skin and hop out of their shell, see the light on the other side, and emerge transformed and healed.

Yes we can continue boxing it up and putting it on the shelf or our overcrowded and dark little closets inside of our hearts, but as the days grow shorter and years pass by, we lose the ability to see the world with clarity out of our very eyes. Our attention is focused inward always, and our time and projections are spent resealing the boxes with packing tape, and because we have an innate need to spill and tell our truth, we will give the boxes an occasional dusting. But I encourage you, and share from experience, that a tool for breaking through your inner doors and chucking this weight that continues to create illusion in your life, is creativity. And everyone has this, is capable of it and can learn. If your creativity is spilling your story to the homeless man on the corner, that is beautiful. If it is composing a song on your guitar that you only share with your roommate or lover, creating a blog where you basically journal because just knowing the world has access to it enables your ability to not hide, or joining a group where you simply are a good listener; all of these are valid forms of creativity. I feel to be creative you only need to tap into the source which inherently runs through your body, as long as it feels good and you feel heard. Open your heart in any way you can, light a candle and say a prayer, pray for others, pray that light can enter your soul and cavity in your chest that yearns for expression and truth. Ask the question, what do I need to say, see in yourself your desire to be heard, seek the truth of your pain, let it out. We are all curious to an extent what hides inside of us, yet some of us have gone too long and have accepted that it doesn't really matter. Start with yourself. I believe every action of expressing your truth, revealing your hurt, will naturally illuminate others and help them on their paths; making a better world, healed, colorful and beautiful.
