City, country,

Plains, mountains,

River towns, dessert towns

We are all here

Cement, dirt,

Farmland, mountain terrain,

Southern beauty,

Western rock,

Eastern highways,

Northern cities

And then the jungle

The desert in the east

The Himalayas

The Polynesian isles

North America

South America

Southeast Asia

The Middle East

Europe, The Fjords

Greenland, Iceland

The Outback

Russia, Eastern Europe

Asia, Antarctica, Africa,

This enormous planet

Is but a spec to the Sun

A human to the earth

Is the same

As the earth is to the sun,

Though we are significant

We are also insignificant,

But the earth is not insignificant

It is our home

It may be large

But we must care and

Appreciate it

With all of our beings

With our souls

Whole and complete

Thank you to the stars

Light years away

That provide perspective,

Without a night sky backdrop

We could lose perspective,

In the cities

We can still see

The sun and the moon,

The moon ever a reminder

Of how small we are

Of how we are surrounded by space,

And the sun

Is all powerful,

Wherever we are on earth

We can feel the immense energy

Of the sun,

And when it is hidden

When we are sheltered

By moisture in the atmosphere,

We miss this massive light,

Though we are reminded

In the summer, in the desert

How painful and powerful

Light can become

Which is why I choose the moon

It, he, she is simple

A rock, able to reflect light enough

To illuminate our earth in moonlight,

When it is full

And the night is dark

We can soak in gentle light

And laugh

At the moon shadow

Which is everywhere,

A reminder of beauty

At a distance, second hand,

It guides our rhythms

And pulls our oceans

To create the tides

A powerful soft jewel

In the sky alone,

Guiding the cycles

Deep down in our beings

Deep down in our psyches

A satellite round and dense

Ever showing

The way to home

Deep inside

To our inner truth
